Dropping Off Household Hazardous Waste

Before you pay us a visit:

  • Schedule your visit on our home page so we know to expect you, especially if you have a large load of hazardous materials! We can accept up to 200 LBS. a month per household per our US EPA rules.
  • Make sure your items are not leaking and are in their original containers or clearly labeled. We cannot accept unsafe or unknown materials.
  • Transport them in boxes or original containers (no garbage bags accepted).

ITEMS ACCEPTED

Electronics: fees apply to TVs (see fee schedule), all others free

Freon-containing appliances: must be clean and empty. Fees apply (see fee schedule)

Household cleaners: bathroom, kitchen, drain cleaners

Automotive wastes: used oil, antifreeze, gasoline or diesel, cleaners, car batteries

Car/Truck tires: limit 5 per month per county residence – passenger tires only, no farm/ag/large truck tires and no business tires

All household batteries

Fluorescent lamps/bulbs and LED lamps/bulbs: no incandescent lamps/bulbs (throw in regular trash)

Fire extinguishers

Lawn/garden chemicals

Fuels: kerosene, lamp oil, gasoline, diesel, lighter fluid 

Paint-related products: latex, oil-based, stains, removers, thinners

Aerosols: household spray paints, paint strippers, bug spray, etc.

Adhesives: household caulks and glues

Beauty aids: aerosols, nail polish, hair spray, perfume (if labeled non-toxic, throw away in trash)

Swimming pool chemicals

Photography chemicals

Mercury-containing equipment

Cylinders: propane or helium – no oxygen or other gases

Cooking oil or grease

Ink – inkjet printer cartridges or copier toner

Smoke detectors

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED

Any household hazardous waste over 25 gallons or 200 pounds per household (this is our limit per EPA generator exemptions).

Materials from a business (this includes farms, schools, landlords, contractors, commercial, retail, etc.) Our facility serves households only.

Materials from outside Marshall County.

Any leaking or unsorted items in trash bags.

Empty containers

Non-hazardous solids (grout, cement, drywall mud is not hazardous)

Fireworks – soak in water, throw in trash

Ammunition – check with police department

Garbage/trash

Sharps – we are taking them through December 31, 2024 – you can also take them to the Marshall County Health Department

Radioactive materials

Non-propane cylinders such as oxygen or welding gas

Fake Christmas trees

Asbestos

Commercial or Industrial products

Mattresses, box springs, or any other type of furniture

Toilets

Scrap metal, including grills, exercise equipment – take to a local scrapyard such as Rochester Iron & Metal, LaPaz Iron & Metal, or Lewis Salvage

Gas-powered lawn equipment

Gas Grills

Dishwashers, ovens, stoves

Washers and/or dryers

Carpets or other types of flooring

Building materials

Lumber or wood

Grass clippings or yard waste

Cabinets or countertops

Water softers or water heaters

Large plastic items such as plastic totes, swimming pools, play houses, garden hoses – these are not recyclable
